Is it possible for someone to know that they will go to Heaven?
Sorry for the overpowering answer but the reality of that thought is spine-tingling. The Bible teaches us that we can know for certain where we will go when we die. If you are somewhat familiar with the layout of the Bible then you know that it’s broken down into multiple books and the books are broken down into chapters and verses. That’s a lot, I know, but that’s as complicated as things get. In the book first John chapter 5 and verse thirteen it says “These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life”.
Here’s the bad news. You can’t go to Heaven and it’s because of the sin in your life. We aren’t judging. It’s just that everyone, even babies are considered sinners according to the Bible which states “There is none perfect, no not one.”. So, that leave us all doomed for eternity (literally) because the book of Romans, chapter 6 and verse 23 says that “the wages of sin is death.”.
To sum things up, the Bible says that all men and women and even children are sinners and that because of the sin in our lives, we can’t go to Heaven. That seems gruesome and rather depressing because the opposite of Heaven is Hell so to speak frankly, every child is born on his or her way to Hell. That’s heartbreaking for the entire human race!
Now, Christians and the Bible in general have gotten a bad rap over the years because of this. You see, people tend to stop telling the story right there. They never continue to hear the ending and if you were to turn off a movie in the most frightening part you would never get to see the happy ending. So please don’t go away yet.
There is a happy ending.
The solution to this horrible death in Hell was a sacrifice but there is no one worthy to save an entire population of people in sin. A life was needed that was perfect. Without any sin. Completely pure and innocent. Sincere. Unselfish. Holy. Not at all like the human race. So, God sent his son, Jesus. You’ve seen the baby manger scenes at Christmas so I’m sure you know that He was born on this earth as a baby.
Now, think about what you see at Easter. Jesus Christ, hanging on a cross. Did you know that He didn’t have to hang there? He came to this earth as a baby with a mission: to stop you from going to Hell.
God had so much love in his heart for you and I and the entire human population that He sent a living sacrifice to die in our place. You see, the Bible refers to God as a loving and just God, The Judge for all man kind.
What does that have to do with anything?
I want you to understand the situation so that you don’t have any questions.
If someone was convicted of an awful crime (murder, rape, leaving a child to die) we would want to know that the judge of the court case was not going to let the felon walk free. We would want to know that justice for the hurting victim was served. Especially, if the one hurt by the trial of the case was someone close to our hearts.
According to Biblical law, sin is punishable by death in Hell. But God didn’t want that to be the ending to our story. So He sent one to take the penalty for us, God wants us to walk free.
“But God commendeth His love toward us in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”
Because of His “great love” and our need for a perfect substitute, Jesus died on the cross in our place. He shed His precious blood to wash away our sin.
“Whosoever calls upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
It’s a gift, this freedom. All you can do with a gift is receive it or reject it. God doesn’t want to force it upon you. If you don’t want it, don’t take it. But know this, you can’t earn gifts, you don’t bargain for gifts, you don’t work for gifts, you don’t even purchase gifts and once a gift is yours, then it is yours to keep.
That’s how we can know for sure that we will go to Heaven when we die. That’s how we know that we won’t loose this gift for doing something “bad”. You didn’t have to do something good to get the gift, so doing something bad won’t take the gift away.
How Do I Get The Gift Of Salvation?
- Admit that you are a sinner
- Believe that God sent his son to die for your sins
- Call out to God, in the best way that you know how, and let him know that you would like to accept Him as Lord of your life.
